Midland Courier dubbed cafes as the "Mushroom of the Year" last 2016 (meaning they're sprouting everywhere like mushrooms). With the rise of Baguio City as one of the metropolitan cities in the Philippines, there is no doubt that the people's lifestyles are also rising up. Cafes are the go-to place for socialization, catching up with friends, networking scams, or being sad people and just being on your phones all night. People, especially the millennials, are on the hunt for the best cafes in the city.

Move over, Starbucks! Here are the top ten cafes in the City of Pines.

It's one of the cafes in the Central Business District, easy to go to after school or work. The modern interior design attracts students and young professionals alike. They have an assortments of desserts, beverages, and meals that is good and worth it at its price. Plus, the available wifi and the trendy music lets you stay.

This is where I get my staple supply of Vanilla Chai Latte.

9. Coffee Matters
SkyZone, Porta Vaga Mall, Session Road

Another gem found in the Central Business District, Coffee Matters is a small yet quaint place - being located near the Baguio Cathedral. What makes this place stand out is the establishment mostly created out of glass. It's best to take your date (or yourself) to this place during the sunset. It's a sight to see together with a cool caffeinated drink.

8. KaffeeKlatsch
#39 City Camp Road, Brgy. City Camp Proper

From Looloo

It's a few steps beyond the Central Business District. KaffeeKlatsch, which means an informal meeting where coffee is served, is beyond its given definition. It houses not only caffeinated beverages, but also alcoholic ones. They also offer desserts and meals to boot. What's also special about this night-only cafe is the live performances during the weekends. It's your getaway within the city.

7. Under the Tree Book Cafe

Under the Tree Book Cafe offers a lot. It has an obvious yet secretive location in the heart of Central Business District. Once you go in, your eyes will wonder on the amount of sticky notes pasted on the walls and ceiling of the establishment. The drinks will tickle your taste buds, all at a very affordable price. You can stay there hours upon hours with the multitude of books that they have to offer. To top it all off, if you are a die-hard Korean fan, then the place is for you!

6. Victor Oyteza Community Art Spaces (VOCAS) Cafe
5th floor, Azotea Building, Session Road

Your jaw will drop the moment you enter - what seems to be a jungle is inside a building within the Central Business District. The greenhouse-like structure resides above the Azotea building, surrounded by vegetation and waterworks. The furniture coincides with the theme of the place - created with wooden chairs and tables created by the locals. There are also paintings created by local artists. The food is just as good as the atmosphere, and it's affordable. Their specialties are of vegetarians.

It is a wary place for meat lovers like myself.

5. Yagam Cafe
#25 J Felipe St., Gibraltar Road
From Martin Andrade.

From TripAdvisor.

With the rise of cafes in Baguio City, even homes are being turned into cafes. Thing is - they have been doing this since time immemorial. Yagam Cafe reminds you of home because it is home. The entire place has a homey design - from interior design to furniture; even the fireplace that's in there. The staff are too friendly for this world. Regardless, they have a wide selection of food and beverages that are too good for its price.

Enjoy your coffee with a cats on your lap.

4. Patch Cafe
Ground Floor, Bloomfield Hotel, Leonard Wood Road, Brgy. Salud Mitra

From weekend wanderings

It's the perfect getaway from the city, The location and building is secluded from the city life - rich of nature to relax your senses. The furniture gives it that homey feeling, further supplemented by the fireplace. The food and beverage selection is massive, catering to the taste buds of all. It's truly one of the best cafes.

2. Cafe Sapore
#36 Legarda Rd., Brgy. Burnham-Legarda

Both from Eats in Baguio.

Cafe Sapore is a getaway from the city in the city. The overall ambiance is peaceful and homey. The selection of food and beverage is as wide as it can get that it is able to serve all ages and all taste buds. Every single dish on their menu is carefully prepared and is more than worth it at its price. Their coffee creation process is as meticulous as it gets - even asking for the method of which it is prepared. On weekends, you can also tune in to the live bands and singers performing there.

1. Vanilla Cafe
Kamiseta Hotel, #23 Villamor St., Brgy. Lualhati
From Where to, Baguio?

From onfoodandstars at Wordpress

Vanilla Cafe takes the number one spot for its overall dining experience. It is a fairy tale storybook reimagined in real life from start to finish of your dining experience. It feels like you've fell down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland, and you would never want to leave. The food and drinks are of the perfect combination and making you want more.
